FlyDubai Aircraft Encounters Engine Problem After Takeoff from Kathmandu Airport

On Monday, a FlyDubai aircraft bound for Dubai with nearly 150 passengers on board experienced a problem in one of its engines shortly after takeoff from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. According to airport sources, the pilots reported the issue to the control tower, and the aircraft returned to the airport's skies in Dharke, where it hovered for some time.

Reports from eye-witnesses claim they saw the aircraft catch fire in the sky, but officials at the airport denied this. Fire engines were put on standby at the airport, but no emergency landing was required. The pilots later announced that they would continue to their destination as all indicators were normal.

The Deputy Director of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal was quoted as saying by a private television news channel that "the aircraft switched off its engine for some time after encountering the problem and now it is heading towards the destination without landing in Kathmandu airport."

The Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation of Nepal, Sudan Kirati, shared on his Facebook account that the FlyDubai plane was flying safely towards its destination, and urged everyone not to worry about it.

The airport has since resumed normal operations. Pratap Babu Tiwari, the general manager of Tribhuvan International Airport, stated that "Kathmandu airport operation is normal from 1614 UTC (09:59pm local time)," indicating that the incident had not caused any significant disruption to the airport's operations.

FlyDubai flight number 576 (Boeing 737-800) was carrying over 150 passengers, including 50 Nepali passengers. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the flight is now proceeding to its destination as per the flight plan.

Air travel is generally safe, with millions of people flying every year without incident. However, as with any form of transportation, there is always some risk involved. The aviation industry takes safety very seriously and has a number of measures in place to minimize the risk of accidents or incidents, such as rigorous maintenance checks and training for pilots and crew members.
