Texas Explosion: 1 hospitalized after loud explosion, fire at South Fork Dairy near Dimmitt


An explosion and fire occurred at the South Fork Dairy in Dimmitt, southeast of the town, at around 7:20 p.m., according to Castro County Sheriff Sal Rivera. One woman was hospitalized and transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, while several other people were treated on scene. The explosion's loud noise was heard several miles away, and the smoke plume could be seen over 30 miles away in Hereford, as reported by Mayor Roger Malone. The fire's smoke was visible on the Storm Search 7 radar for approximately 30 minutes. Crews are currently mopping up hot spots. The State Fire Marshal's Office and Texas Department of Emergency Management are investigating the explosion's cause and are expected to release their findings on Tuesday.
