In the early hours of Tuesday night, firefighters responded to a vegetation fire in the Santa Ana River bottom in Eastvale, California. As of midnight, the fire had spread to approximately five acres, burning mainly in thick vegetation in the 7700 block of Cobble Creek Drive, which is located close to several homes.

According to the CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department Twitter account, there are homeless encampments in the area, which may have contributed to the start of the fire. Although winds were light on Tuesday evening, they pushed the fire to the east, and there is potential for 25 acres of river bottom land to burn.

The fire department has not reported any evacuations or injuries at this time. CAL FIRE crews will be working on the scene through the night to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

Vegetation fires are a common occurrence in California, particularly during the dry season. They can be started by a variety of factors, including lightning strikes, equipment malfunctions, and even arson. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of wildfires caused by homeless encampments, which can be dangerous for both the individuals living in them and nearby residents.

To prevent wildfires, it's important to be aware of your surroundings and take steps to reduce the risk of fire. This can include properly disposing of cigarettes and other flammable materials, maintaining vegetation around your property, and being cautious when using equipment that could spark a fire.

The CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department is reminding residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity in or around homeless encampments to prevent future vegetation fires from starting.

The next update on the Eastvale fire will be provided after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, unless significant fire activity occurs through the night. In the meantime, firefighters will continue to work tirelessly to contain the blaze and protect the surrounding community from harm.
