12-Year-Old Rebecca Wu Wins Doodle for Google Contest with "My Sweetest Memories" Artwork

Rebecca Wu, a talented sixth grader from the
International School in Bellevue, Washington, has emerged as the winner of the
prestigious "Doodle for Google" contest. This annual event, now in
its 15th year, received entries from tens of thousands of participants.
Rebecca's artwork, titled "My Sweetest Memories," will be featured on
the Google homepage starting Monday at 9 p.m. PT.
The 12-year-old Rebecca has been passionate about
art since she was a toddler, when she would scribble with colored pencils on
the walls at home. Over the years, her artistic abilities have flourished,
capturing the attention of the contest judges and earning her the top spot
among K-12 participants from 55 U.S. states and territories.
Rebecca's heartwarming artwork depicts her enjoying
a cup of hot chocolate with her two sisters, Anna and Esther, in a garden
adorned with vines and flowers spelling out the word "Google." In her
description, she expresses gratitude for her sisters and their impact on her
life, symbolized by the intertwined growth of vines and flowers. The artwork
represents a compilation of their happiest memories, highlighting the joy they
bring to each other's lives.

Using the Procreate program on her iPad, Rebecca
skillfully crafted her winning piece. Art has become her favorite pastime,
complementing her interest in computer coding, where she creates video games.
At the young age of 12, Rebecca has already showcased her early artworks,
stop-motion movies, photography, and writing on a website she created in fourth
grade.
Rebecca's father, Qiang Wu, credits the guidance of
director Sunyoung Kwon at Bellevue's Studios Fine Arts, where Rebecca has honed
her artistic skills since the age of 7. He describes the journey of her art as
genuine and stemming from her heart, a fact that fills him with immense pride.
Rebecca's school held a special assembly to celebrate her win, and her father
highlights the importance of community in her life.
As a software engineer and an MIT graduate with a
background in Microsoft and Alibaba, Qiang Wu expresses his support for his
daughter's artistic aspirations. He acknowledges the unpredictability of the
future, particularly with disruptive AI technology, and encourages Rebecca to
follow her inner voice. Regardless of whether she chooses a career in art or
tech, he and Rebecca's mother, Jiayuan Huang, are fully supportive.
With Rebecca's artwork set to be seen by millions
of viewers on the Google homepage, her father eagerly anticipates the surreal
experience. He plans to capture the moment by taking pictures and indulging in
some extensive Googling.
